In 2014 it was time for the Scandinavian peninsula to be added to Euro Truck Simulator 2’s map. Or the the very least the southern half of Scandinavia, because even with the name given to the DLC the road network stops a bit north of the three respective capital cities. The only country covered in full is Denmark.
Denmark is of course reached by road from Germany, but also by ferry from both the UK and Germany. In addition if you own the Going East DLC there is also a ferry option from Poland. All in all the ferries are playing a big role in the network, since with the exception for driving over the Öresund Bridge connecting Denmark and Sweden, ferries are the main ways to get between Denmark to Norway, or between Sweden to Finland.
Since the Scandinavia DLC was only the second DLC to be released for Euro Truck Simulator 2, and it’s now been a decade since then, its age is noticable. Compared to later map DLCs Scandinavia still has more in common with the original game than with the more refined map construction used later.
This means less detailed surroundings, a simpler road network and narrower off-ramps from the motorways. Personally the last thing is the one I find the largest drawback. That said, it is still a good map add-on for its time.
This map DLC is big enough to offer several distinct and different landscapes – the open fields and bridge-connected islands of Denmark, the forested, rather low populated Sweden, and the more mountainous Norway. When you arrive from the continent and go north through Sweden, the map does manage to convey the feeling of larger distances where the main landscape is forest. And more forest. The difference from more populated parts of Europe is there.
The Euro Truck Simulator 2: Scandinavia map expansion pack DLC was released in May 2015.
