A slight problem in the wine cellar

So we got this idea that since there actually exist a very nice wine cellar, maybe, just maybe it could be accessible with a skid steer. After all there are ramps…

They may be a bit steep though…

I will gracefully omit to show you what happens when trying to lift a heavy wine barrel with a skid steer which is already in a 45-degree angle. Let’s just say that its lift force and distribution of mass get a bit limited.

In the end, and after some experimenting, we found out that the better option was to let them slide down on their own.

These shenanigans took place on the Italia Emilia Extension map by Edomod – which is still one of the best maps in existence for FS22.

New and old

Isn’t it beautiful? The tractor I mean. A shiny new Kubota is doing its first job. Fetching water from what probably is the most picturesque water source I’ve ever come across on a map.

The map is Edomod’s Italia Emilia Extension, the Kubota is from Giants Kubota DLC and the Joskin water tank wagon is a trusty old base game item.

ATS and ETS2 1.45 updates are out

As is usual before the launch of a new DLC map (and sometimes in between such occurences too), American Truck Simulator has got an update to version 1.45. And to illustrate the “and sometimes in between” statement I just made, the similar 1.45 update for Euro Truck Simulator 2 is now also out.

For both games the news are ownable tank trailers, rain sensors that automatically may turn your windshield wipers on and adjust their speed as the sensors registers rain, some changes in how mods are handled in multiplayer convoy sessions, a setting that allow for hiding the out of bounds X’es on the roads

For American Truck Simulator the US-14 road and the accompanying town of Cody, Wyoming, have been added for those of you who own the Wyoming map DLC. There has also been a rebranding of many gas stations and truck stops all over the map – although probably most noticable in the “older” states – since SCS now have become much more skilled in how to make very neat such stuff.

For Euro Truck Simulator 2 there’s been an update of the German city of Hannover, which has also got a newfangled thing called custom introduction to the city. This has also been made for the Austrian cities. In addition the first phase of the implementation of functional JOST fifth wheels on trucks is included in this update.

You can read more about the 1.45 updates on SCS Software’s own blog. The one for American Truck Simulator is to be found here, and the Euro Truck Simulator 2 one is here.

Montana for ATS comes August 4

SCS Software has set a release date for their next DLC for American Truck Simulator. The map for the state of Montana will be available for purchase from August 4, 2022.

With the northernmost US state on the east slopes of the Rocky Mountains, SCS is well on the way to get American Truck Simulator rolling over the Midwest.

In addition to the map there will also be new cargo to haul in the form of utility poles, circuit breakers, a garbage truck (yes, as a cargo, not driveable), silane gas, trees, a dumpster, wastepaper and last but definitely not least, a beet harvester.

The Old-fashioned Way

There are times when you just feel more at home in a piece from the olden days.

There’s also the benefit of after having spent time driving around in European trucks right beforehand, this oldie from the turn of the millenium sort of feels more at home with its “the nose ends just in front of the windscreen” construction. I must admit that.

Cabover trucks are as I understand it not all that common in North America anymore, at least not as heavy long hauler trucks. The Freightliner Argosy was produced and sold in the US and Canada between 1999 and 2006. After that its main markets was Australia, New Zealand and South Africa until it was disconinued in 2020.

The Freightliner Argosy in question is a mod available in the Steam Workshop and is made by Harven and Lucasi.

New stuff coming to FS22

It is FarmCon time and that means it is time for Giants Software to present new add-ons for Farming Simulator 22. Actually, they started in advance by presenting what the Platinum Pack for the game would include: the advent of Volvo machines and a new forestry map to go with them. But let’s take the new stuff in order.

A Vermeer DLC
Closest in time is a new DLC of the smaller type which will introduce the farming equipment brand Vermeer to the game. The highlight in this pack is doubtlessly Vermeer’s self-propelled baler but the pack also includes a trailer mower, a bale processor, a twin rake and a conventional baler.

The Vermeer DLC will be released August 24.

Pumps N’ Hoses DLC
From third-party mod developer Creative Mesh, who earlier have made the Straw Harvest DLC for Farming Simulator 17 and 19, comes a new package dedicated to the handling of manure and slurry on the farm. Even if the DLC is created by Creative Mesh, it will be published and sold by Giants and as such works like any other in-house produced DLC. It will be available from September 27.

The Platinum Pack or Upgrade
On November 15 it is time for the traditional one-year-after-initial-release Platinum edition of the game. As usual it comes both as a new starter pack and as an upgrade pack for those who already have the basegame.

As stated above the Platinum pack has a bit of a forestry angle this year, with a new forestry map called Silverrun Forest and new equipment from Volvo CE. The pack is a larger thing than the common DLC and will provide – among other things – more than 40 new machines and tools of different brands, some new gameplay functions, and the aforementioned Silverrun Forest map.

The Kubota Pack DLC and patch 1.6 for FS22 is out

Giants Software has released their new Kubota Pack DLC for Farming Simulator 22 and you can read a longer review of it here.

In short it contains – which should come as no surprise – a number of Kubota tractors and other orange-coloured machinery. It also brings the possibility to go as a passenger in vehicles where there are spaces for passengers. (As far as I can tell this does not include the side-seats in tractors.)

As follows, the basegame was patched with patch 1.6 just before the DLC premiere as well with a bunch of minor modifications and fixes.

Changelog patch 1.6:

Harvest time in Nebraska

It’s time to harvest the sorghum on the big fields in Nebraska so it’s time to bring out the big equipment.

Here we have the John Deere 9620 R and a Demco 1300 auger wagon taking a short break in the work. The John Deere is the basegame tractor while the Demco 22 Series grain cart is a very nice third-party mod from Custom Modding and is available in the official modhub.

And once the sorghum has been safely stored away it’s time for the next crop. This time soybeans. And there’s not always time enough during the daylight hours when there’s a lot to harvest.

Screenshot from FS22 showing harvesting with John Deere equipment
Soybean harvest at Green Valley Farm, Nebraska.

This time the tractor used is an older model year John Deere 9620 by SiiD Modding and a John Deere S790 harvester made by Giants Software themselves.

The Nebraska map is called Green Valley, Nebraska and is made by DJ Modding. It is available for download at their itch.io site.

The West Balkans are next in ETS2

After the sort of forced and unavoidable shelving of the Heart of Russia DLC, SCS Software has now made official what the next DLC instead will be. It is time for the West Balkans.

Of course since it’s still early in the development there is no date given for any release yet.
